Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a validation system, which is intended to stop the so-called email spoofing where an email message is sent from one address, but to appear as being sent from another one, ordinarily with the idea to scam the recipient in some way. If SPF protection is activated for a domain, an exclusive record is made for it in the Domain Name System and all DNS servers worldwide receive it. The record contains all mail servers that are permitted to send authentic messages from an e-mail address part of the domain. When an email is sent, the very first DNS server it encounters checks the SPF record and when its sending server is authorized, the message is forwarded to the targeted receiver. If, however, the sending server is not present in the SPF record for the specified domain, the message will not be sent and it will be removed. If you use this solution, it will stop third parties from sending spam e-mails which seem to have been sent by you.

SPF Protection in Cloud Hosting

When you host your domains in a cloud hosting account on our end and we manage the e-mail addresses for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for any of them with several clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service can be found in a section of its own where you're able to view which domain names are already secured. For the ones which aren't, you can enable the SPF protection option and configure various things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your mailboxes, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to set a rule that emails can be sent only when your domains include our MX records. The aforementioned solution is the most secure one, and you can use it when we handle the e-mail addresses for your domains and you are not using some other e-mail supplier. The newly generated records will be activated within a day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in a message with your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to protect your email addresses by activating the SPF protection service for any domain name in your account with only a couple of mouse-clicks. This is done from the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel that is included with the semi-dedicated accounts and even in case you have no previous practical experience with such matters, you won't have any difficulties to activate the security. Everything that you will have to do is to pick a domain from a drop-down list then type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. When the new record propagates, messages from your e-mail addresses will be mailed around the world only if they are sent from that particular server. In case your emails are taken care of by us and not by a third-party provider, you can also use an option for email messages to be mailed only if the domain name features our MX records and the aforementioned is the safest option.
